O.H.S.O. Eater and nanoBrewery

Dog walking and bike riding are the two most popular activities along the Arizona Canal, and the canal-fronting O.H.S.O. Eatery & nanoBrewery pays homage to both on their patio, also called “the Backyard.”

From the raised plank-floored booths to a station featuring dog bowls, watering spouts and free treats, fur kids are not just welcome here, they’re often the most popular among the clientele. Informal rescue events are sometimes held here on weekend afternoons, and proceeds from some of the beers are dedicated to shelter needs.

A patio fence enclosing the outdoor venue is sculpted from scrap metal shaped into human and bicycle forms. The bicycle wheels double as working fans, with speeds controllable by table guests. As Phoenix heats up for summer, the fans kick in to help the misters keep things comfortable, extending the patio’s season.

But the real business of O.H.S.O. is beer, as its full name reveals: Outrageous Homebrewers Social Outpost. Their beer makers also collaborate with other local breweries and home brewers, creating a very original array of beers on tap.

Inside and out, hearty local foods include Warm Green Chili Dip and the Arcadia Burger. But their best offering may be the weekend brunch: Entrée price tags ($10 or $15, depending on menu choice) include choice of a beer or an outsized Mimosa. We enjoy the Bacon, Biscuits and Gravy ($10 with drink), but a favorite among hungry regulars – and certainly the most colorful – is the Fruity Pebbles French Toast ($15 with drink).

There are also gluten-free and vegan options. See their speciality menu.
