Cave Creek Balloon Festival

Thanks to Memorial Day, we get an extra day off this weekend. If you need help to take advantage of the extra time, read on for our suggestions. This major annual Phoenix event sees dozens of movie and TV stars, authors and comic book artist gather to meet their fans. Other attractions include cosplay contests, panels, seminars and more than 700 vendors of collectibles and memorabilia.

2. Cool off

Friday, May 26
Whether you worked up a sweat cosplaying at Comicon, or just want to keep the normal heat at bay, enjoy water slides and other water-based activities in downtown Phoenix. *Free Event!

3. Honor fallen military, police and firefighters

Get a jump on Memorial Day at this annual celebration of fallen Phoenix heroes. There will be live music, kid play areas and fireworks to end the evening. *Free Event!

Watch hot-air balloons light up the night as you enjoy live music, games, local food and beverages, and fireworks. *Military discount!

5. Chow down on yummy food

Sunday, May 28
Experience the food, music, dance, clothing and culture of the Caribbean through a free parade and a (paid) Carnival Village that includes steel drums and stilt walkers.

10. Observe Memorial Day

Monday, May 29
Numerous cemeteries and museums around the Valley host Memorial Day celebrations, but here are some of the larger ones:
Memorial Day at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona – the official military Memorial Day ceremony
Memorial Day Observance – the historic ceremony at Pioneer & Military Memorial Park
Anthem Memorial Day Ceremony – the ceremony at the award-winning Anthem memorial
National Moment of Remembrance – a moment of silence from 3 p.m. to 3:01 p.m. (local time) wherever you happen to be

Out of the Valley

Wyatt Earp Days

Saturday, May 27 to Monday, May 29
Celebrate one of Arizona’s most legendary figures in the spot where he gained his fame. Escape the Valley and head down to Tombstone for street entertainment, gunfight reenactments, a chili cook off and plenty more.
