Fans of trains and American railroad history need to visit McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park and its many avenues for exploration.
Take a ride on the Paradise & Pacific Railroad, a 5:12 scale narrow gauge railroad that features three steam locomotives, two diesel engines, an electric engine, scale model railroad cars, a water tank and more railway essentials. You can also ride the Scottsdale Charros Carousel, in operation since 1950, or the Arboretum Train that runs through the park’s two-acre arboretum.
The park houses the Scottsdale Railroad Museum, which holds the entire historic Peoria Depot, the Roald Amundsen Pullman Car, the 1907 Engine No. 6. and more treasures.
If you wan to go small, visit the 10,000 square foot model railroad building. Featuring contributions from four model railroad clubs and three layouts in different gauges, it allows plenty of spots for visitor interaction. Finally, families can wrap up their visit on a full playground.
