Win a Pair of Altra Running Shoes!
Fall is here. And the weather is perfect for getting out for a run.
Whether you’re new to running, in the middle of training for a race or a seasoned marathon runner, there are big reasons to perk up when you hear about Altra.
Perhaps the term zero-drop is new to you, but the idea of proper form has been spreading with books like Born to Run or the latest craze of barefoot running. Altra’s zero-drop shoe design means no raised heel which allows for correct fore-foot form while still offering the protection of footwear.
Take a look at their brilliant design.
As a minimalist/barefoot runner myself, I can see obvious improvements in their designs compared to contemporary companies. Besides the non-raised heel, my favorite feature is the large toe box.

I’m 45 years old, a lifetime runner. I’ve worn traditional high-drop “running shoes” since 1980, Nike Daybreak being the first of many. These replaced my flat Converse All Stars that in 1979 allowed me to set the still standing junior high record in the 1/2 mile. With Olympic-size aspirations, I believed “running shoes” were necessary for me to progress. In hindsight I went from spectacular to ordinary to injured for most of the past 31 years. I never thought the injuries were caused by the “running shoes”. In August of this year I was encouraged by a chiropractor to read “Born to Run”. I ditched my Nikes and started training with $12 Body Glove (zero-drop) water shoes. Over the past two months I’ve been painfully transitioning (with a lot of ice but no injuries!!!!) off my heals to forefoot running. I am one of many who have had there dreams destroyed by what is now the money making machine of high-drop running shoe companies. I’m ready for zero-drop full time! HELP ALTRA!!

Tim, I hear you! I too am a runner. I started running barefoot/minimalist a year and a half ago. As Marketing Director of Phoenix.org I wanted to spread the word about great companies like Altra. I am glad so many have responded. Wish we had more shoes to give away!

Comment by Mary B on October 20, 2011 at 11:54 pm
I went from commercial, injury inducing running shoes that, as it turns out have been the source of ALL of my injuries, to Newtons. That was the begining of my injury free running life. I have transitioned from Newtons to Be Real barefoot running shoes and I could not be happier! As the result of this transitioning and style adjustments I have been 100% injury free for the last year! I’ve always wanted the Altras and the coming winter might be the perfect time!

I have been promoting Altra for over a year! Yet I still don’t own a pair. Why is that? I am waiting to win some.
Comment by Kyle on October 21, 2011 at 2:07 am
I bought my first and only pair(to date) in August….I am a beginner runner (42) and ran my first races in Asics….My knees and low back would always ache during and after runs…..now, i run in my Altra Adams and occasionally barefoot as I am working to up my distance….my plan is for next summer to run the Dam 2 Dam, Bix 7, and Des Moines 1/2 all barefoot! I love my Altras and recommend them to everyone I know, even patients! I would LOVE a new pair as I also wear them at night walking on concrete for 4 hours…
Thanks!!

Sweet shoes!
Comment by Scott Blomquist on October 21, 2011 at 3:00 am
I like Altra’s concept of keeping the barefoot running, zero-drop, but I’m a little concerned with the separation of my foot from the ground. The potential loss of tactile feedback to my feet versus the protection that they are offered. Hopefully I win a pair so I can try them out.
Comment by Charles on October 21, 2011 at 3:03 am
