Entrance to the Phoenix Zoo

The Phoenix Zoo—a hot spot when the weather’s not. Open year-round, the Phoenix Zoo is perfect place to take your family this winter.

The Phoenix Zoo houses over 1,300 animals. Included in that number are approximately 200 endangered species. The Desert Tortoise (Xerobates Agassizii) is a favorite among patrons because it can be found in the Phoenix desert region. This impressive tortoise can have up to a 15 inch shell. Another favorite is the African Lion (Panthera leo). This carnivorous predator will live up to 15 years in the wild. An African Lion’s roar can be heard up to five miles away.

The Phoenix Zoo is more than it seems. Not only can you see exotic animals as part of the attraction, but you can participate in a variety of family programs. There are classes for children starting as early as 6 months. Adults can also join in the fun with programs of their own.

When visiting the Phoenix Zoo, keep in mind that there are also zoo-sponsored events to sign-up for. This year the Zoo hosts the “I Do” at the Phoenix Zoo (a bridal fair), the 2nd annual Walk in the Wild, Bunny Brunch, Mother’s Day Brunch and Rock the Zoo as well, not to mention many more events throughout the year. Check the Phoenix.org calendar to stay up to date of Phoenix Zoo events.

A daily pass to the zoo starts at $16 per adult. Membership to visit the zoo starts at $55.00 for an adult—each adult after pays only $25. For children ages 3-18 the cost is $10 each and children 0-2 have free admission. In addition to the basic membership, two bonus tickets will be provided. So sign up now and invite a friend or two! The Phoenix Zoo is a very affordable and educational attraction.
