Originating in 1912, the Phoenix Art Museum is the largest institution of visual art in the Southwest. The first painting in the art collection was purchased in 1915. The Phoenix Fine Arts Association was officially formed in 1925. The museum, as it is known today, was established in 1959. 2006 brought additional changes as the modern art wing was added. Located at 1625 N. Central Ave in Phoenix, the current museum is an impressive 210,000 square feet.
Admission to the museum ranges from $4 for children 6-17, $8 for senior citizens and fulltime students with ID to $10 for adults. The Phoenix Museum also offers free admission Wednesday evenings from 3-9 pm and the first Friday of the month from 6-10pm.
The Phoenix Art Museum features such exhibitions are Geoffrey Beene:Trapeze, Ansel Adams:Discoveries and Sumatra:Textiles from the Collection of Dr. Thomas J. Hudak. Exhibitions featured in the art museum change. Stay updated on Phoenix.org.

The Phoenix Art Museum’s philosophy includes the focus of education. The School Membership Program includes an opportunity for students to enjoy the fine art the museum has to offer. Regarding The School Membership Program, the Phoenix Art Museum website states:
“For annual dues of just $75, individual students and their families, faculty or staff members of your school (K-12) may enjoy free general admission* to Phoenix Art Museum. Your school receives a General Membership card in the name of the school. Students, faculty or staff members may check out the card from a designated school official for their individual use. The Membership Card admits two adults and up to four of children or grandchildren age 17 or under. One of the visitors must be employed by or attend the school named on the card.”
