Blue Rain Contemporary is proud to announce its first show of the 2012 will be with the artist J. Paul Fennell. Fennell is essentially self-taught with wood and his first introduction to the lathe was in 1970. He prides himself on his use of salvaged wood which he often gathers from the “urban forest” of his home city, Scottsdale. His vessel-like forms are often inspired by shapes in nature and serve as a structural launch-pad for the detailed designs and patterns he creates by carving away unwanted material with precision tools. The final pieces are both delicate and organic. Fennell’s work resides in museum collections of great prominence such as The Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, NY, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Blue Rain Contemporary will host a reception for the artists on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
