This annual Arizona festival can’t fly you out to Honolulu…but it can get you pretty close! This two-day event is packed with authentic Hawaiian performances, hula dancing, a Hawaiian marketplace and enough teriyaki to shake a pineapple at.
Take a free ukulele lesson and learn to play on their ‘loaner’ ukulele. Their volunteers will help you learn a few chords and how to strum. Create a paper flower lei, stamp a postcard with Polynesian designs, or make your own mini poi ball. You can also learn to play Chongka, a game popular in Guam and Saipan. Learn about the Hawaiin Goddesses of Fire and Ice, the lethal technology of ancient Hawaiian weapons and how to play a gourd drum. Or learn how to string a lei or to dance a hula.
You won’t want to miss this free family event – and the perfect opportunity to rock that grass skirt and coconut bra combo.
