The Arizona State Senate is a part of the legislative branch of Arizona government. The Senate is made up of 30 members representing an equal amount of constituencies across the state, with each district having average populations of about 220,000. State senators serve two-year terms with term limits, limiting Senators to a total of eight years.
Since Arizona is one of four states to have abolished the elected position of Lieutenant Governor the Senate is ran by a “President of the Senate” who is elected by the body of the Senate.
The Senate President also appoints a President pro tempore, who serves for the duration of a session of the legislature, to preside in his absence, and may appoint a temporary President pro tempore in the absence of the President and President pro tempore.
The Arizona State Senate offices are in Phoenix, Arizona.
